The Export Strategy of the AP Vojvodina 2011-2015 presented to the Business Community of Vojvodina

On Thursday, December 14th 2011, a presentation of the  Strategy for Export Improvement of the AP Vojvodina 2011-2015 was organised for the busunessmen from Vojvodina by the Regional Chamber of Commerce Novi Sad. The presentation was opened by Milos Tomic, advisor to the Head of the Regional Chamber of Commerce Novi Sad, who welcomed the audience with the introductory speech. Tatjana Karaulac, Head of the sector for macroeconomic research of "Vojvodina-CESS", presented the Export Strategy in terms of its structure, goals and motives for its development, with the particular reference to the findings and recommendations of the Strategy, resulting from the research conducted for the purposes of the Strategy.

Present businessmen were first acquainted with the reasons for creating of the Export Strategy that derived from the findings obtained during the creation of the Study by CESS entitled "Competitiveness of Vojvodina" (2010). The conclusion that emerged from the analysis of the foreign trade performance of the Province was that the specialisation of exports in AP Vojvodina is lower than the specialisation of imports and, therefore, it is necessary to formulate a strategy that would indicate the ways of changing the export structure of AP Vojvodina in favor of products that will be internationally recognised and competitive. Accordingly, the motives for the development of the Export Strategy were: providing incentives for a strategic approach to export, improving the export structure of Vojvodina, the development of new export products, stimulating the creation of new exporters and providing greater support non-price factors of competitiveness and the instruments of export promotion.

The attention of present businessmen was particularly attracted by the part of the Strategy dealing with the current situation in foreign trade of Vojvodina and the analysis of commercial potential of Vojvodina, obtained by using the gravity model, which was developed in cooperation with the Vienna Institute for International Studies (WIIW). The presentation was followed by a discussion during which the present businessmen commented on the Strategy and spoke about the challenges they face in their export activities, and they expressed the hope that the recommendations of the Strategy will be adopted and implemented.
